José Antonio García Apac disappeared on 20 November 2006. He was intercepted by unknown assailants while returning to his home in the state capital.

He was a journalist and ran the newspaper Eco de la Cuenca del Tepalcatepec, which was distributed in Tepalcatepec, Aguililla, Apatzingan, Buenavista, Coalcomán Chinicuila, Aquila and Coahuayana, municipalities.

Jose gathered information and published about organised crime drug trafficking and extortion.

Jose's family continues to produce Eco de la Cuenca del Tepalcatepec. In the upper right corner of each copy includes a box with a picture of Jose and the words: "We urge the authorities to clarify the case of our CEO José Antonio García Apac, who disappeared on 20 November 2006.
