In a 14 April 2008 telephone interview, an official at the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Consulate General in Toronto provided the following information on the issuance of birth certificates.

The government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is currently issuing a new version of the birth certificate. The Official said that the government began issuing the new version around 2005 or 2006; however, he was unsure of the exact date. At the time that the government began issuing the new version of the birth certificate, it stopped issuing the old version.

According to the Official, some individuals have been allowed to continue using the old version of the birth certificate; however, the government is now encouraging citizens to obtain the new version. Some individuals may be in possession of both versions (i.e., those who hold onto the old version of the birth certificate once they have obtained the new version).

Both versions of the birth certificate contain the same information; however, the new version is machine-readable.
