1) A copy of the Egyptian Citizenship Law is currently unavailable to the IRBDC. However, the Embassy of Egypt in Ottawa will send a copy to the IRBDC once it has been received from Cairo. Upon receipt, the IRBDC will forward it to you.
2) A representative of the Arab League provided the following information during a telephone interview on 17 January 1992.
It is difficult to acquire Egyptian nationality because of a number of reasons including the fact that Egypt, which has a population of over 50 million, has a high rate of population growth. Generally speaking, there are two categories of foreign nationals who may apply for Egyptian nationality: 1- those who are married to Egyptian nationals; 2- those who were born of an Egyptian parent. Apart from these two cases, it is difficult for other likely applicants to acquire this nationality. In exceptional cases, those who do not meet the necessary above-mentioned conditions but are certain high-ranking people, e.g., the ex-President of Sudan, may acquire Egyptian nationality.
