Russian Federation: Putin questions authorities after thousands displaced in flood wave

Thousands were forced to find refuge in trees and on roofs after a five-metre flood-wave swept through the southern Krasnodar region of Russia. The latest report from the Ministry of Emergency Situations stated that 29,000 were displaced from their homes and 171 were killed.
The Russian government admitted that officials failed to adequately warn residents and President Putin, who visited the flood site on 7 July, has ordered an inquiry into the authorities' actions. Putin also instructed authorities to examine the damage while promising that every family will receive financial assistance for urgent needs, lost property and lost family members.
Government agencies have been conducting rescue operations and are pumping water from homes. Volunteers have further launched independent efforts to send and distribute relief to those unable to benefit from the government's assistance.
