Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein-Amir Abdollahian says Iran has shared security interests with Yemen and will not allow other regional actors to jeopardize those interests.

Tasnim news agency quoted the official as saying on May 2 that other countries would not be allowed to risk this shared security with "military adventures" – a clear reference to a monthlong military campaign in Yemen by Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries.

Relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia have soured over the conflict in Yemen, where the Saudis are leading a joint military action against Shi'ite Huthi rebels believed to have Iranian backing.

Meanwhile, the international community has turned its attention to the looming humanitarian crisis in Yemen, where some 1,250 people have died in the fighting.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has warned that fuel shortages could bring relief operations to a halt "within days."
