Jordan has witnessed what is being called its first protest with only women taking part.
According to reports, hundreds of women marched in the south of the country on March 17 demanding political reforms and the release of six pro-democracy activists.
Activists say the rally in Tafileh – some 180 kilometers south of the capital Amman – was a bid to get women to play a bigger role in the country's reform movement.
Activists there say they will be reaching out to other women across Jordan as part of a wider "political awakening" of Jordanian women.
Pro-democracy activists in Jordan are calling for an end to corruption and the transfer of the King's constitutional authority to form governments to the people.
