In 21 July 2011 correspondence with the Research Directorate, a representative of the Special Fraud Unit of the Nigerian Police Force provided the following information on the International Driving Permit (IDP) in Nigeria:

The Nigeria Police Force through her Central Motor Registry is the only authorised body that issues international driver's permits.

The applicant must present a valid national driver's permit [and a] recent passport photograph. The applicant must be someone who is not of unsound mind. The applicant must submit [an] application stating the reason why he is applying for the IDP.

The applicant must state the name of the country where the IDP is intended to be used in his or her application. The applicant must in addition to the hand-written application fill out a form that will be given to him by officials of the Central Motor Registry.

The applicant's application must state his or her passport number.

[The] international driver's permit does not have any hidden features but it is of a good quality and strictly controlled.

The Special Fraud Unit representative applied for an IDP, providing a scanned copy of the document to the Research Directorate on 21 July 2011, which is attached to this Response.

For additional information on the Nigerian IDP, refer to NGA103700.FE.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim for refugee protection.
