No information on whether seniors in Moscow, especially single women, are tortured and beaten by criminals to sign over rights to their apartment could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
However, in a 1 June 2000 report, the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights mentioned that a number of elderly persons "who had an apartment at their disposal" had "disappeared" in Moscow allegedly as a result of a "criminal hunt for apartments" (IHF-HR 1 June 2000, 320). No further information on these cases could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
