According to a representative of the Helsinki Citizens Assembly (HCA), the League for Human Rights, Rights of Children and Youth in Krnov is the same as the League for Human Rights in Krnov (29 Oct. 1998) (see CZE30275.E). The latter organization is cited in a Radio Prague report entitled "The Situation of the Roma in the Czech Republic, January 1998" (n.d.). Josef Baláz was an organizational spokesperson at that time. According to the HCA representative, Mr Baláz is now in Great Britain and Mr Jan Kotlár is now the organization's chair (29 Oct. 1998). The organization has approximately 300 members, including children, and operates in Krnov only (ibid.).

The Czech Helsinki Committee (CHC) also provided information on a League for Human Rights, Rights of Children and Youth (30 Oct. 1998). According to the CHC, the organization is located in Prague, but the contact person, E. Valasek, is in Krnov. That group was established in 1990 and monitors human rights, rights of children and youth, minorities and is involved in mediation, training and crime prevention (ibid.).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
