The following information was provided in a 7 May 1997 telephone interview with a crown counsel of the Attorney General's Office, Ministry of Legal Affairs, Goverment of Jamaica.

The Domestic Violence Act of 26 April 1995 came into effect on 29 May 1995 when it was published as Act No. 15 of 1995 in the Jamaica Gazette: Supplement Bills and Acts. As of that date, applications under the legislation could be made to any resident magistrate or family court. Regulations accompanying the Domestic Violence Act were published in the 2 May 1996 Jamaica Gazette.

Information about whether statistics on the number of charges made under this legislation are available could not be found among the sources consulted by the DIRB.
