Ousted Egyptian President Muhammad Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood movement says it will hold protests until he is reinstated.

On July 11, Brotherhood official Essam al-Erian called for "peaceful sit-ins and demonstrations" over the weekend.

The movement has defied calls from the military to accept a road map for a new election.

In a related development, officials said prosecutors are going to investigate allegations that Morsi escaped from prison with help from the Palestinian militant group Hamas during the 2011 revolution.

They said prosecutors have gathered testimonies from a court in the Suez Canal city of Ismailia for an investigation into the alleged jailbreak by the Islamist leader and 30 associates.

Meanwhile, UN chief Ban Ki-moon has expressed concern over the continued detentions and arrest warrants for Muslim Brotherhood members after the military removed Morsi from power last week.
