Please find attached an official translation of a letter from the Ministry of External Affairs of Chile produced earlier this year, responding to IRB questions on passports and security checks. Please note that the document, under the subheading "Security Checks," states that authorities "check to verify that there is no outstanding arrest warrant against the individual or any reason why that person should not leave the country" (4). However, the document does not state whether authorities would specifically detain persons who are under investigation but without an outstanding arrest warrant. Although a written request on this matter has been forwarded to the headquarters of the International Police in Santiago, a response could not be obtained in time to meet the deadline of this information request.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
