According to Political Handbook of the World 1996-1997, the Parti du renouveau et du progrès (PRP) is the successor to the Parti communiste marocain (PCM), the Parti de la libération et du socialisme (PLS) and the Parti du progrès et du socialisme (PPS).(1997, 568-69). The same source adds that the PRP is often referred to as the PPS in Morocco.

The attached section of a 15 November 1997 statement made by the minister of state, ministry of the interior retrieved from the Moroccan Ministry of Communications Website provides the results of the 14 November 1997 elections to the House of Representatives. According to the statement, the PSS took nine of the 102 seats won by the Koutla coalition.

The attached 6 December 1997 Moroccan Radio Network report provides a statement made by the minister of state for interior and information which gives the detailed results of the 5 December 1997 elections to the Chamber of Advisers, the parliament's upper house. According to the statement, the PPS won 7 seats of 44 seats won by the Koutla coalition which came third behind the Wifaq bloc (76 seats) and the Group of the Centre (90 seats). According to this statement, the members of the upper house were chosen through indirect suffrage.

According to an official from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Ottawa, the composition of the new government that will be formed in the wake of the 14 November 1997 elections is still unknown (12 Dec. 1997).
