An official from the Embassy of Bulgaria in Ottawa stated during an 18 December 1996 telephone interview that a child born in Bulgaria in 1991 of a Bulgarian mother and a foreign father is a Bulgarian citizen.
The attached section on Bulgaria in the March 1996 issue of the Council of Europe's European Bulletin on Nationality provides information on children's acquisition of Bulgarian citizenship.
