The information that follows was obtained from the internet web site of the National University of Asuncion (16 Jan. 1998).

The Faculty of Agrarian Sciences was created in 1954. Its main facilities are at the San Lorenzo university campus; its dean is Prof. Agr. Pedro Gerardo Gonzalez. The faculty offers, among other study programs (carreras), that of Human Ecology (Ecología Humana), although the academic degrees (grados académicos) it grants are either Agrarian Engineer (Ingeniero Agrónomo) or Forestry Engineer (Ingeniero Forestal), each requiring five years of study. The faculty has branches (filiales) in the cities of Pedro Juan Caballero, San Pedro de Ykuamandiyú, and Caazapá; the latter two branches only offer study programs and degrees in agrarian engineering.

The information that follows was provided during a 16 January 1998 telephone interview with an employee of the Faculty of Agrarian Science staffing the central desk of the Faculty of Agrarian Science of the National University of Asuncion.

At the time of the telephone interview, the majority of the faculty staff is away on summer vacation; the academic director, Prof. Ricardo Garay, who is also a teacher, is away until February 1998. Prof. Garay has been a teacher and the academic director of the faculty for some years, although the source was unsure of the exact year he began exercising his tenure and post. Human Ecology is a program of study (carrera), and not a single course, taught at the Faculty of Agrarian Science; the source, however, was not totally certain of whether a course with the same name as the study program was given in 1994. For additional information on careers and courses of the faculty, requests can be addressed in writing to the academic direction of the faculty.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
