No information on the existence of the newspapers El-Hurriyya and El-Hadath could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate. Moreover, in correspondence dated 13 September 2006, a representative of the International Freedom of Expression eXchange (IFEX) indicated that his work group could find no trace of those newspapers.

Nevertheless, in correspondence dated 16 September 2006, the IFEX representative stated that a newspaper called Al Hadath does currently exist. However, in citing contributors to Al Hadath, he stated that the publication of that newspaper began only in 2006. The information provided by the IFEX representative could not be corroborated by any of the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim for refugee protection.
