The head of Kazakhstan's Border Guard Service has been ordered held in pretrial detenion on organized crime and corruption charges.
Kazakh Military Court officials said on October 30 that the Aqmola Garrison Court in Astana charged Nurlan Zholamanov with "setting up an organized criminal group and bribe taking."
The court ruled that Zholamanov, who was detained on October 27, must be kept in pretrial detention until December 27.
No more details were made public.
Several former Kazakh officials have faced prosecution on suspicion of graft in the last two years.
Some have been sentenced to long prison terms.
On October 16, former deputy agriculture minister Muslim Omiraev was sentenced to 10 years in prison for accepting a $100,000 bribe.
