Recently freed Russian oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky has applied for a Schengen visa so he can travel to Switzerland, where his sons attend school.
Swiss Foreign Ministry spokesman Stefan von Below confirmed on December 24 that Khodorkovsky had requested a three-month via at the Swiss Embassy in Berlin.
Khodorkovsky was released from a Russian prison on December 20 after being incarcerated for more than 10 years for a conviction on charges of financial crimes.
After his release, he left immediately for Germany.
Khodorkovsky was freed as part of an amnesty the Russian government approved to mark the 20th anniversary of the adoption of Russia's constitution.
Khodorkovsky has always denied any guilt.
