Information on the value of 5000 Dalasi in Canadian dollars in 1981 could not be found among the sources currently available to the DIRB. However, according to the Africa Contemporary Record: 1981-82 Annual Survey and Documents, 2.1 Dalasi was equivalent to US$1:00 (p. B414). An official of the Bank of Canada in Ottawa stated in a telephone interview with the DIRB, that the annual average for 1981 was Cdn$1.1990 to US$1.00 (27 Jan. 1995).

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
