The following information was provided by an official of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Ottawa in an 18 April 1995 telephone interview.

An individual wishing to exit or enter Turkey requires a valid passport, which is stamped by an immigration officer upon exiting and entering the country. An individual travelling on a Belgian passport does not require a visa to enter Turkey, and can remain in the country for up to three months without a visa. Once in Turkey, should s/he wish to remain longer than three months, s/he must go to the police and request an extension. The official was unable to provide additional information on obtaining such an extension once in Turkey.

Please consult the attachment from Travel Information Manual for additional information on the requirements for entering Turkey.

Please find attached a copy of a visa application form which was faxed to the DIRB on 18 April 1995 by the Turkish embassy in Ottawa.

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
