In correspondence received by the Research Directorate on 15 November 2008, a representative of the Southern Cameroons National Council (SCNC) General Secretariat in Bamenda stated that requests for information on a member of the SCNC can be directed to any SCNC unit around the world. The Representative did not indicate whether offices provide letters of support. The Representative also stated that the SCNC had received reports of "Francophone Cameroonians and Nigerians" producing fraudulent documents, including Southern Cameroonian identification and SCNC membership cards, in order to pursue asylum claims in other countries.

Information on how the SCNC is able to vouch for the experiences of members and how they verify membership could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate within the time constraints of this Response.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim for refugee protection. Please find below the list of sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
