2)             Information on this specific subject is currently unavailable to the IRBDC in Ottawa. However, according to an article in the Indian Ocean Newsletter of 13 June 1992, the government of Uganda, on the advice of fund donors, has agreed to reduce the size of the armed forces which are estimated to number 100,000 troops (Ibid.). On 28 July 1992, the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, announced that the size of the army will be reduced

Mr. Museveni said that soldiers to be retrenched will fall under three categories: those who wish to leave voluntarily, those in ill-health, and the undisciplined (Radio Uganda 28 July 1992, 5).

Additional and/or corroborating information is currently unavailable to the IRBDC in Ottawa.
