According to the First Secretary and Consul of the Embassy of the Republic of Guatemala in Canada, exit visas are not required for leaving Guatemala: [translation] "any citizen with a passport can travel freely" (1 Apr. 2005). A person under 18 years must have both of his or her parents' authorization to obtain a passport (Embassy of the Republic of Guatemala 1 Apr. 2005).

The "Visas" page of the Website of the Embassy of Guatemala to the United States does not mention an exit visa requirement for Guatemala (2002).

In addition, the Migration Act (Ley de Migración) does not require Guatemalans to obtain exit visas (Guatemala n.d.).

No information on a requirement for an authorization to be indicated in the passport of a minor or to be renewed each time that minor leaves the country could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim for refugee protection. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
