A prominent member of the Muslim community in Uganda, Prince Kassim Kakungulu Nakibinge, reportedly said that although the situation of Muslims in Uganda had improved, the Muslim community still faces "some challenges" (The Monitor
11 Dec. 2001). Country Reports 2000 reports that "unlike in the previous year, there were not reports that security officials mistreated Muslims or that Muslims suspected of being ADF rebel collaborators or involved in terrorist activities died as a result of torture by DMI officials" (2001, 626). Additional and/or corroborating information could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
