Reporters Without Borders is deeply shocked by the death of Rebecca Wilbrod Kasujja, the presenter of a morning show on community radio Buwama FM in the central district of Mpigi. The Uganda Journalists Union said she was raped and killed by unidentified assailants on the morning of 17 February.

"The authorities must deploy significant resources to identify and punish those responsible for this despicable crime," the press freedom organisation said. "All avenues should be explored, including the possibility that she was killed in reprisal for her work as a local radio presenter. Our thoughts are with this young woman's family, friends and colleagues."

Aged 32, Kasujja set off at 7:30 a.m. on 17 February from her home in the village of Kasubikamu to go to the radio station. Her body was found later the same day by inhabitants of the village.
