Pakistan's military says its jets have killed at least 12 suspected militants in air strikes in a northwestern tribal region.

The statement said the strikes were conducted on June 9 in the Khyber region near the Afghan border.

The strikes come a day after the military said 19 militants and seven soldiers were killed in a clash in the North Waziristan tribal region.

Pakistan launched a major operation against militants in North Waziristan in June 2014 and it is carrying out a similar operation in Khyber.

The area is generally off-limits to journalists, making it difficult to independently verify the number and identity of the dead.
