Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has dismissed several administrative officials in the western Herat Province.
Ghani was visiting Herat on December 27 and announced the dismissals of the provincial heads of the attorney's office, the oil, power, and customs departments and the director of education at a press conference in the city of Herat.
Ghani said all except the chief attorney would face charges of corruption.
Ghani also sacked the police chiefs in all 15 of Herat's districts.
Ghani had met with representatives from a broad sector of the local society during the first part of his visit to Herat.
RFE/RL's Radio Free Afghanistan reports these were the first major changes President Ghani has made in a local administration since taking office.
No replacements for the open posts in Herat have been announced.
