At least 18 people were killed and 35 others injured in Kohat in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province when a suicide bomber blew up a minibus full of internally displaced people (IDPs) heading for the Ali Khel area of Orakzai Agency in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). The Ali Khel tribe fled Taliban human rights abuses and army bombardments last year, but the Pakistani security forces now claim control over the area and encourage the tribesmen to go back home. They say it is safe to do so despite Taliban threats against IDPs who collaborate with the army.
This was the second suicide attack in one week against tribal groups, with the other targeting a meeting called to discuss the formation of an anti-Taliban militia in FATA.
