A Hungarian Government Report on national minorities states that, according to the 1990 Census, Croats in Hungary numbered 17,577 and Serbs, 2,953 (Report of the Republic of Hungary Feb. 1999). The report also states that:

The traditional settlements of Croatians living in Hungary lie in the south and western border regions of the country (the southern parts of Bacs-Kiskun and Baranya counties, along the river Dráva, in Zala county, Vas and Gyor-Sopron counties). Sizeable Croatian communities are also found around Budapest ...

Significant numbers of Serbians living in Hungary reside in Budapest and the outskirts, on the Hungary-Yugoslav (Csongrád county) and in Baranya and Békés counties.

Status of ethnic minorities in Hungary can be found in Country Reports

1999, Section 5.

No information on the treatment of Croatians by Serbs in Hungary or by the Hungarian government could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
