Kuwaiti authorities say they have arrested members of an extremist cell that was sending funds and weapons, including rockets and an air defense system, to the extremist group Islamic State (IS).

The Interior Ministry said the cell's members included citizens from Lebanon, Syria, Australia, Egypt, and Kuwait.

The predominantly Sunni Muslim country was the target of a major terrorist attack in late June, killing 27 people.

An IS affiliate claimed responsibility for the attack in a mosque in Kuwait city.

Several IS members were put on trial over the bombing.
