In addition to the general information already provided by your Regional Documentation Centre, please find attached some documents that contain references to Catholics and Roman Catholics in Djibouti. According to these documents, the Roman Catholic Church in Djibouti comprises a single diocese, directly responsible to the Holy See (Europa 1992, 937). The number of adherents to the faith was estimated at 8,000 by the end of 1989 (Ibid.). One source states that most of the 7,500 communicants of the Roman Catholic bishopric in Djibouti are French (Kurian 1992, 490). Another source states, without referring directly to Catholicism or Catholics, the following:

Since Djibouti also depends on French aid and military protection, resentment at the French presence sometimes takes on a religious colouring, but this is better regarded as a legacy of colonialism than as a genuinely religious issue (Mews 1989, 59-60).

Additional and/or corroborating information could not be found among the sources currently available to the DIRB.
