Information on a political party with the name Grupo de Apoyo Nacionalista could not be found among the sources consulted by the DIRB.

During a 7 July 1997 telephone interview, a representative of the Embassy of Honduras indicated that a political group under the given name might exist, although it can be ascertained that it is not a legally established political party nor does it have representation in the Honduran congress.

Please find attached two Central America Report articles containing references to a politician named Raul Pineda, the most recent found among the sources consulted. Both reports refer to Raul Pineda as a deputy of the opposition National Party (Partido Nacional, PN). One of the attached articles states that Raul Pineda Alvarado is also a member of the parliamentary commission working on  legislation to create a new police force (ibid. 24 Apr. 1997, 3), while the other states that he has been working with civil institutions to suspend new legislation that amended the Penal Code (ibid. 10 Apr. 1997, 6). Please consult the attached documents for more information. Please note that a recent reference to the PN leadership names Oswaldo Ramos Soto as the party's president (Central America Report 10 Jan. 1997, 6).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
