Egyptian state media say the country's interior minister survived an assassination attempt on September 5 when a bomb blew up near his convoy.
The attack occurred as Muhammad Ibrahim's convoy traveled through Cairo's Nasr City district. The area is a stronghold of the Muslim Brotherhood, the movement that backs ousted President Muhammad Morsi.
Security sources said several people were injured in the blast, but the minister was not hurt. It was not immediately clear whether the explosion was caused by a suicide car bombing or a car bomb detonated by remote control.
The interior minister is in charge of the police force that has been involved in the crackdown on Morsi's Islamist supporters. Hundreds of people have been killed in clashes between security forces and protesters since the military ousted Morsi on July 3.
