An Uzbek doctor kidnapped on April 13 from a hospital where he worked in northern Yemen has been released.
Word came late on April 19 that the doctor, whose name was not given, had been freed after tribal mediators in the Marib Province negotiated with armed tribesmen holding the physician.
Yemeni officials said the doctor was handed over to the mediators and brought to the provincial capital.
The kidnapping of foreigners in Yemen is common, often carried out by Islamic militants, as well as by tribesmen seeking to press the government to free jailed relatives or to improve public services.
