Russia's Investigative Committee says eight suspects allegedly involved in the kidnapping and killing of a regional official have been arrested.

The suspects were detained on February 18, a day after the body of Lipetsk City Council deputy Mikhail Pakhomov was found in a barrel of cement in a small town near Moscow.

Pakhomov disappeared several days ago from his native Lipetsk, a city 440 kilometers southeast of Moscow.

Those arrested include a 40-year-old former official in the Moscow Province government, who is suspected by authorities of ordering Pakhomov's kidnapping and killing.
