Canadian officials say they have ordered the deportation of a Pakistani man accused of plotting to bomb the U.S. Consulate and some financial buildings in Toronto.
Immigration officials said on June 5 that Jahanzeb Malik – the second Pakistani to be deported from Canada in recent months – is being sent back on grounds of national security.
Malik, 33, was accused of planning to "conduct a violent attack against a United States government building and other targets in the financial district of Toronto."
Canadian officials also charged that Malik tried to recruit an undercover agent to help him carry out his attack.
Malik said he will not appeal the Immigration and Refugee Board's decision.
He is to remain in detention until he is flown to Pakistan within the next three weeks.
Malik, who was arrested in March, came to Canada as a student in 2004 and received permanent residency in 2009.
