The following information was provided in a 3 March 1997 telephone interview with the spokesperson of the Association of Relatives of the Disappeared and Detained (AFDD, Agrupación de Familiares de los Desaparecidos-Detenidos).

The source stated that neither an AFDD representative nor the AFDD as an organization participated in a demonstration on 23 August 1995. However, the source noted that the AFDD organized a march in Santiago on 30 August 1995, but there were no violent acts or arrests during the protest. The source stated that she was not aware that members of the AFDD section in Valparaiso had participated in the 30 August 1995 march, as they were presenting a public exposition and information booth in the Plaza of Valparaiso on the same date.

The source stated she that was unaware of any member of an AFDD association recently having to leave the country because of threats being made against them. The source noted that not a single threat has been made against an AFDD member since 1986.

For additional information on AFDD activities since April 1995, please consult Response to Information Request CHL26396.E of 13 March 1997.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
