Russia's Prosecutor-General's Office has confirmed that it has officially requested the extradition of businessman Sergei Polonsky from Cambodia.
On November 6, Polonsky's lawyer, Aleksandr Karabanov, said his client, who is wanted by Moscow for alleged corruption, is ready to make a deal with investigators and return to Russia.
Karabanov denied media reports in Cambodia that Phnom Penh wants to extradite Polonsky. Russia and Cambodia do not have an extradition agreement.
Polonsky and two associates were arrested in Cambodia last year after local sailors claimed the Russian property developer had beaten them.
Polonsky spent three months in Cambodia in detention before fleeing to Israel, where he unsuccessfully tried to get Israeli citizenship.
He then returned to Cambodia.
In August, Russian authorities issued an international arrest warrant for Polonsky on embezzlement charges.
