The families of a Western couple who are missing in Afghanistan since 2012 have released two short videos they say they received from the couple last year.
In the videos, Canadian citizen Joshua Boyle and his wife, Caitlan Coleman, appeal to the U.S. government to free them and their young child from the Taliban.
Coleman was pregnant when she and Boyle decided to travel through Central Asia. In their last e-mail, on October 8, 2012, Boyle said they had entered an unsafe part of Afghanistan.
The families decided to make the videos public now following the release of U.S. soldier Bowe Bergdahl. He was freed from Taliban custody in exchange for five Taliban detainees.
The families say they were disappointed that their children and grandchild were not freed as part of the deal.
U.S. and Canadian officials declined to discuss specifics of the case.
