Military Service Laws

Law No. 1068-XII of 16 December 1992 entitled O vseobshchey voinskoy obyazannosti grazhdan Respubliki Kyrgyzstan [translation] (On the General Military Duties of Citizens of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan), the most recent amendments to which came into effect on 1 January 2006, has the following section titles:

Kyrgyz law No. 930-XII of 1 July 1992 entitled O statuse voyennosluzhashchikh [translation] (On the Status of Military Servicemen), including the most recent amendments for which came into effect on 1 January 2006, has the following section titles:

Section V. Responsibility of Military Servicemen (ibid. 6 Aug. 2005).

The military service law in effect for the period 2000 to 2002 could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

Alternative Military Service Laws

Kyrgyz law No. 1070-XII of 16 December 1992 entitled Ob al'ternativnoy (vnevoinskoy) sluzhbe [translation] (On Alternative (Non-Military) Service) has the following section titles:

Kyrgyz law No. 100 of 28 May 2002 entitled Ob al'ternativnoy (vnevoynskovoy) sluzhbe [translation] (On Alternative (Non-Military) Service) has the following section titles:

A 2005 news article reported that beginning 1 January 2006, the length of military service is 12 months for members of the ground and air forces, domestic troops, the national guard, air defence troops and border defence troops, and the length of alternative service is two years (Krasnaya Zvezda 21 Apr. 2005).

The abovementioned laws are included as attachments to this Response. Please be advised that Law No. 1068-XII of 16 December 1992 entitled O vseobshchey voinskoy obyazannosti grazhdan Respubliki Kyrgyzstan [translation] (On the General Military Duties of Citizens of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan), as taken from the Kyrgyz Ministry of Defence Website, is incomplete.
