In a telephone interview an official at the Liberian embassy in Washington, DC stated that permanent residents of Liberia are required to renew their status when their permanent residency permit expires (12 May 1995). The duration of the permit is at the discretion of officials at the Immigration and Justice Ministry (ibid.). For additional information on permanent resident status in Liberia, please consult Response to Information Request LBR20519.E of 15 May 1995, which is available at Regional Documentation Centres. Corroborating information could not be found among the sources consulted by the DIRB.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
