Information on the arrest of individuals attending a joint meeting of the Southern Cameroons National Council (SCNC) and the Human Rights Defense Group (HRDG) in April 2002 could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.

The Southern Cameroons Interim Government-in-Exile website provides a link to a 2006 article by Post Newsmagazine that states that during funeral services for Martin Luma "[t]roops invaded the funeral grounds ... and carried out arrests" (October 2006). Further or corroborating information on arrests of those attending Martin Luma's funeral could not be found among the sources consulted by Research Directorate within the time constraints for this Response.

Information on takeovers of a radio station in Buea by the SCNC in December 2000 and December 2003 could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate within the time constraints for this Response. However, a 22 May 2002 Panafrican News Agency (PANA) article indicates that in January 2000, the SCNC chairman and five aides were arrested and held for 14 months for "clandestinely proclaiming the independence of English-speaking Cameroon" on state radio in Buea (22 May 2002).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim for refugee protection. Please find below the list of sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
