Two top officials in Tbilisi's mayoral office have resigned amid an ongoing corruption scandal.
Georgian television reported on March 5 that Tbilisi Mayor Davit Narmania had accepted the resignations of Reno Chakhava, administrative head of the mayoral office, and his deputy, Mariam Shelegia (eds: a woman).
Irakli Abesadze, head of the opposition United National Movement party in the city council, said the resignations are linked to ongoing investigations against other mayoral office officials.
Last week, Tbilisi mayoral office worker Mikheil Kviria was detained for allegedly accepting a $10,000 bribe.
Jokia Bodokia, chief of the supervisory service in the mayor's office, was arrested last month on suspicion of receiving a $50,000 bribe from a company in exchange for a hotel construction permit in Tbilisi.
Also in February, Tbilisi Deputy Mayor Alexandr Margishvili resigned from his post without explanation.
