BISHKEK – Kyrgyz border guards have detained an Uzbek national accused of crossing the border illegally.

Kyrgyzstan's Border Guard Service says the Uzbek man was caught while crossing into the southern Kadamjai district on February 10.

It is the third time this month in which the authorities have detained people they accuse of crossing the border illegally from Uzbekistan.

A total of six other Uzbek citizens were detained in two separate cases since February 1.

Many parts of the borders between the five Central Asian countries have remained in dispute since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

In recent months, the tension along Kyrgyz-Uzbek and Kyrgyz-Tajik borders have intensified after outbreaks of violence involving residents and border guards from all sides.
