According to the Turkish Embassy in Ottawa, contacted on 30 October 1990, women do not lose their Turkish citizenship when marrying a foreigner. This information is corroborated by Ariel Delouya, Desk Officer for Turkey at the Department of External Affairs, contacted on 31 October 1990. This source further mentions that the Turkish authorities recognize dual citizenship. Dual citizenship means in this case that a woman would have both Turkish and her husband's citizenship. The Embassy in Ottawa stated that husbands can receive Turkish citizenship if they ask for it within a period of one month following marriage. After that period, husbands have to go through the normal administrative process. This source added that no specific length of time is required to be eligible for Turkish citizenship. This information was corroborated by the Turkish Embassy in Washington, contacted on 30 October 1990.
