Iraqi officials say a coordinated attack killed at least two police officers in the central city of Fallujah.

Police sources said one suicide bomber blew himself up at the main checkpoint outside the city police headquarters.

A second suicide bomber struck the nearby electricity department headquarters, as militants opened fire on the police headquarters with automatic weapons, mortar rounds, and rocket-propelled grenades. Attackers then entered the electricity department building and fired on police with sniper rifles.

Interior Ministry spokesman Saad Maan said security forces killed five attackers. Several police were also injured in the fighting.

Fallujah, a former insurgent stronghold, is located 65 kilometers west of Baghdad. The attack came a day after a series of at least nine suicide attacks across Iraq left dozens killed and injured.
