BISHKEK – A Kyrgyz civil rights activist, Ondurush Toktonasyrov, has protested in front of the Russian Embassy in Bishkek against the reported torture of two Kyrgyz migrant workers by Russian ultranationalists.
Toktonasyrov held placards at his December 13 protest that read "Down with Russian nationalists!" and "Stop skinheads."
Media reports in Kyrgyzstan the previous day said that Russian nationalists in Moscow had inserted metal screws into the ears of two Kyrgyz migrant workers in Moscow.
A physician at a Moscow clinic, Tatina Kaipberdieva, told RFE/RL that the two Kyrgyz men – 23 and 25 years of age – were hospitalized 10 days ago in serious condition.
Their current health state is stable, she said, but the incident may leave them permanently deaf.
The men refused to file complaints with Moscow police, saying such a move would be pointless.
