A Georgian soldier has been killed in an attack on NATO forces near a major U.S. air base in Afghanistan.
The Georgian military and NATO said on September 23 that the soldier was killed the previous day in a clash while patrolling near Bagram Airfield, north of Kabul.
Another Georgian soldier was wounded in the attack.
Bagram, which is guarded by U.S. Marines and allied forces, frequently comes under militant rocket attacks but they rarely cause casualties.
NATO did not identify any particular militant faction it believed was responsible for the attack.
NATO said the Georgian was the ninth foreign soldier to die in Afghanistan this year, compared to 75 killed last year.
Most Western forces withdrew from the country at the end of 2014 but some 13,000 NATO troops are training Afghan forces.
