Poland's defense minister says his country will pull its troops out of Afghanistan earlier than originally planned.
Tomasz Siemoniak said on January 15 that the number of troops in the Polish contingent would be reduced to some 500 by May of this year.
Previously, Poland had said it would lower its troops in Afghanistan to some 1,000 by the end of 2014.
As of the end of last year, Poland is believed to have had some 1,600 soldiers in Afghanistan, stationed in Ghazni Province.
Siemoniak said the Polish troops who remain in Afghanistan will move from the base in Ghazni, which will then be closed, to the Bagram base outside Kabul.
