The Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) hosted the 4th International Conference entitled "AIDS Impact - Biopsychosocial Aspects of HIV Infection" at the Ottawa Congress Centre from 15-18 July 1999 (Canadian HIV/AIDS Policy and Law Newsletter Spring 1999; Health Canada 5 Mar. 2002). According to Roche-HIV.com, a Website that provides information on Roche's products and research in the HIV field to physicians (2001a), the 5th International AIDS Impact Conference on the "Biopsychosocial Aspects of HIV Infection" occurred in Brighton, England, from 8 to 11 July 2001 (2001b).

In a telephone interview with the Research Directorate, the Conference Services Manager of the Delta Hotel in Ottawa, whose responsibilities include conference arrangements for the Canadian AIDS Society, stated that no international AIDS conference was held at the hotel between the 9th and 12th of September 2001 (3 Dec. 2002). She added that there had been a Canadian AIDS Society Annual General Meeting at the hotel from 19 to 23 June 2002 (ibid.).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
